la lluvia

I am sitting in this tanned room, as the light of my little desk lamp highlights my orange bed, wooden cupboard, shelves, desk, and floor. Outside – darkness, rain, and thunder. The shadows in my room are keeping me safe. White light flashes outside, followed by the banging of a drum close by – how close is this thunder I wonder? All I know is that I am scared, excited, and happy at the same time. In Barcelona. In Sagrada Familia. In Alicia’s home. My home. Safe.

This morning I woke up to the sound of thunder, and as I get into bed tonight, the flashes of lightening welcome me back. It was a nice day today, cloudy, with light rain by the evening… I hope it clears tomorrow, so I can get out again. I am in love with this city. A few hours ago, I was at Park Guell, an amazing place built by the famous Gaudi. Man, I love his work. He is a genius. Seriously. I went with Nick and Edwin, and saw the city from above. We had an entire view of Barcelona – it was pretty breath taking. It was also the perfect stress relief after yesterday. I was pretty homesick yesterday, stressing for my exam today (which went well) and was generally overwhelmed by everything. But today was perfect. All I needed was to take a deep breathe… and chill. All I needed was to plug in my ipod and walk around in the rain.

I really want to make the most of every day that I am here… I am learning so much about the world, people, and myself. I feel like I am pretty much the luckiest person in the world right now, as I have realized that I have the best of friends and family. If only I could share my experience here with you all – that would be perfect. But what’s the beauty of perfection anyway? If you want to know beauty, you have GOT to see Gaudi’s works. The style of his work is genius. I don’t know how else to describe it. La Sagrada Familia looks like a giant sand castle built for Dr.Suess or something… no joke.

La comida. I have definitely gained some weight here already. 4 meals a day, and big meals too - not the kind that I am used to. I am gaining some muscle too which is good… but I feel like I need to exercise more, with the amount that I am eating. Madre mia! Haha I picked that one up from Alicia.

Much love from Barcelona! <3
